In September 2021, Women in Sport, issued a\u00a0\u00a0response<\/a>\u00a0to the Sports Councils\u2019\u00a0extensive study<\/a>\u00a0into the issue of trans inclusion in sport.\u00a0 This high-quality report included a\u00a0comprehensive review of the scientific literature<\/a>\u00a0by an expert sports medic.\u00a0 It concluded that the inclusion of trans women in female categories in most sports could not be balanced with fairness, and in some sports, safety.\u00a0 The Sports Councils made it clear that individual sport governing bodies would need to decide their own approach and offered some examples for alternative ways to include trans women in sport.\u00a0 The Sports Councils have also offered ongoing support to the sports sector.<\/p>\n

Sport is inherently physical, so the different physiologies of the sexes matters. Whilst everyone should be able to participate in sport, the Sports Councils\u2019 Equality Group\u2019s International Research Literature Review states \u201cThere are significant differences between the sexes which render direct competition between males and females unfair in most \u2018gender-affected sports<\/em>\u2019\u201d.
